When you use our
e-mail query service, the e-mail goes out under your own name and e-mail
address, using a strong subject line to attract interest. For example, a
music publisher query might be set up
something like this:
To:
June Williams, A&R Director
mailto:jwilliams@abpublishing.com
From: Dan
Jones danjones@yahoo.com
Subject: New Ballad about a Lost Love from an
Award-Winning
Songwriter and Singer
All you
need to do is provide us with subject line and content of the e-mail.
Write it yourself, use our guidelines, or we can write a
strong pitch for you. The key is to keep it short and to the point.
Start with short line about the genre or type of song, and what it's about (about
40-50 words) and ask for permission to submit your song and the preferred
format. Then, add a brief bio, highlighting what is most relevant and promotable about
you. We'll do a final review and polish, including
suggesting a subject line if you don't have one, which is included in the
service -- though if you need a more extensive rewrite, we'll tell you that.
You
can see a few sample
e-mail
templates
that have gotten a good positive response to guide you.
These are modeled after our
very successful query letters for book writers and screenplay writers that
have resulted in acquiring top agents and making major deals.
Many of these letters have gotten to people who don't normally read query
letters or accept unsolicited submissions, but a good query letter will open
doors.
Once we receive your payment for our query service, we'll send you a
password or address to access these templates on our Web site.
Once your query is ready,
well
e-mail it
to the
selected music publishers, record companies/labels, and/or agents and management companies,
based on your type of song. You'll also
get a report listing the companies and the contacts at each company
queried.
